FACEBOOK

I read excerpts from Mark Zuckerberg’s treatise on, “self expression”, which I refuse to believe he wrote all by himself, that was printed last week in the Wall Street Journal.  I also have some difficulty on deciding whether he is guilty of exhibiting an over abundance of arrogance, “chutzpah”, or plain old fashioned hubris.

He claims that he will be creating an independent body that will have the sole responsibility of watching over and maintaining the integrity and fair mindedness of the content to be displayed on Facebook.  Yeah, right.  Will these members be lifetime appointees like on our Supreme Court or will they be rotated according to some pre-determined formula – and who will be paying them?  If true fairness is his goal then it won’t come from his appointees but rather from an equal number of Democrats and Republicans.

Aside from the fact that I have been saying this for quite a while, it should come as no surprise and apparent to anyone with half a brain that the kid is definitely in violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act.

This Act was intended to protect trade and commerce against unlawful restraints and monopolies and to preclude companies from gaining control of the market by the suppression of competition in the marketing of goods and services.  However, the Act was written long before the internet came into being and certainly before anyone ever anticipated that there would be a platform from which one could reach out to as many as two billion people and with a, “wave of the pen”, influence their ideas and thoughts, something that is far more insidious than mere restraint of trade.

And now the kid wants to have his own private monetary system in the form of Libra Cryptocurrency.  Why a cryptocurrency?  Everyone knows that cryptocurrencies were originally conceived so as to be able to avoid all forms of governmental regulation and control and possibly taxation.  So give me a break.

THE EXAM SCAM

Regarding the college exam scam, all we hear about are the pleadings of guilty or not guilty from the guilty parents and their resulting jail terms or upcoming trial dates – but what about the guy that caused it all, the brains behind the exam scam, the guy who engineered the whole thing and made a shit load of money from it?  When does he get to tell his version of what happened or will he walk?

HILARIOUS HILLARY

She’s back in the news, if in fact she ever left.  I can’t believe that once upon a time I was for her.  But that was BB, before Benghazi and prior to her declaration on national TV wherein she stated, “What difference does it make now?”, or words to that effect, when referring to the bungling of Benghazi and all of the skeletons that have since fallen out of her closet.  And now she claims that Tulsi Gabbard, one of the Democrats seeking the nomination of her party, is a Russian asset.  What has she been smoking?

THEN AND NOW

When I was a kid the Republicans, as I recall, were generally not very nice.  As the representatives of big business they were viewed unfavorably as the breakers of strikes and a multitude of evil doings, not at all representative of the party of Abraham Lincoln.  Times change and things change.  At one time, at least when I was growing up, the Democratic Party stood for ideals such as freedom of speech, exchanges of ideas and an absence of violence against those who dared to differ with them.  What has happened?  My parents would say to me that the Democratic Party is the party of the people and the Republican Party is the party of the rich.  Yet every Democratic President in my lifetime, with the exception of Harry Truman, was either a millionaire when he entered office or became one by the time he left office.  Can you explain that?
