I was watching the Wizard of Oz last week and it struck me that the Wicked Witch of the West was the architect of her own destruction. She chased down Dorothy, the Tin Man the Scarecrow the Cowardly Lion and Toto too and had them cornered on the ramparts of her dingy castle. The cruel old hag could have ordered the Flying Monkeys to lift the entire “Off to see the Wizard” quartet and drop them from the dark fortress’ heights to their watery doom in the mote below. Instead, however, being a really “wicked” witch she decided to make Dorothy suffer by forcing her to watch the others “die before her.” So the green-faced crone lit the end of her broomstick using a burning torch on the wall and then thrust the fiery bristles at the Scarecrow. The Straw-man’s arm immediately ignited and the flames quickly grew. Dorothy, in a moment of sheer desperation, grabbed a nearby bucket of water and hurled its contents toward the horrified Scarecrow’s fiery arm to douse the blaze. However, some of the water missed its mark and doused the Wicked Witch as well. To everyone’s surprise, the Wicked Witch of the West melted in green heap like the cheese on a Saint Patrick’s Day pizza and was gone. In the end, all of the Witch’s evil was undone by water. Water! An inorganic, transparent, tasteless, odorless, and nearly colorless chemical substance which makes up over 70% of our planet Earth and our human bodies. Who knew? Who knows what other ordinary, uncontemplated means exists that can defeat a deadly threat?
The current administration and its fuhrer, the Orange Witch of Queens, may also be the architect of their own undoing. Many say they are inept. I won’t argue that point but “fearless leader’s” continuing efforts to destroy everything and everyone who disagrees with him or doesn’t kiss his ass is plain to see. We are stunned every day as Rick Wilson’s book, “Everything Trump Touches Dies” becomes a ghastly headline. POTASSWIPE’S blatant disrespect for the office he stole and the nation he is supposed to lead is apparent in his daily word-puke rallies. But even more apparent is that the reddish-yellow faced wicked, villain of the WH seems to be bent on getting rid of those of us who, and I quote an unnamed Repelican asshole, “are on our last legs.” Trumpenick once said he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue a get away with it. He’s already killed forty-three thousand (43,000) Americans and seems to be getting away with it. I just turned 78 years old and I strenuously object to being considered collateral damage.
In the middle of 14th Century, the entire population of the world was about 450 million which would be equal to today’s combined population of the United States and Mexico. Back in the year 1340 at the beginning of the bubonic plague, the people didn’t know about the rats, fleas or self-distancing. As a result, one-sixth of the world’s population died and it took almost 200 years to build back up again. Today, the Rat’s are still here but unfortunately far too many of our current Rats have another name that also begins with an “R.” We have a gang of malevolent, flea-ridden rodents in charge of the Federal response to the current, murderous pandemic. These Rats are failing their oaths and duties miserably from moment to moment and I believe that this behavior is intentional. Doesn’t it bother anyone that those who are in most jeopardy through the “mismanagement” of the COVID-19 crisis are those who are recipients of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Unemployment, Disability payments, and a plethora of other “government” assistance? Maybe Donald J. (J for Jones as in “drink the Kool Aid”) will resort to his old business tricks and declare that the United States of America is bankrupt. I wonder how his five co-conspirator justices at the highest court will react to that…maybe the Chief Justice will… nah.
